Mark has a wealth of experience regarding
train protection systems having been
instrumental in the introduction of ATP to
UK mainline rail, TPWS (including recent
improvements to the system) as well as
ERTMS. Mark has also been involved in
the design and assessment of trainborne
sanders, radio communication systems,
failure indication systems (in cab, lineside
and signalbox) as well as signalling
schemes.
Mark has been involed in the design and
evaluation of new train builds including the
Class 185 and 380. He has also been
involved in projects for conceptual
equipment retrofit (e.g. ERTMS) as well as
detailed retro-fit for ATP, TPWS, sanders
etc. Mark has supplied numerousTOCs
with assessments of controls, indications
and seating within train cabs and
passenger saloons and has provided
pragmatic design advice when required.
Mark has a wealth of experience regarding
the assessment of operational procedures
as well as equipment design and layout.
He has undertaken workload assessments
as well as ergonomic reviews of driving
cabs, signalling centres and ticket offices.
He has assessed physical, cognitive and
socio-tecnical issues regarding rail
operation including musculo-skeletal
disorders, human error, safety culture,
violations and SPADs.
